I CAN GET TO THE DESK. I CAN SIT AT THE DESK. I CAN USE THE DESK.
(I sit cross-legged in office chairs, so no leg room needed underneath.)
And you can see floor!

Update on THE UNPACKENING!
Bookcases: filled!
Closet: stuffed to the gills!
Office: unpacking and organizing begun!
Lack of storage: lamented!
I’ve also included a picture of my shower: when the previous owners expanded the place, they built this shower under the stairs, so it has this odd stepped wall. We’ve had to improvise a bit to make the shower curtain work.
I’m just happy with the fact that you can see the floor in the office now. Pics of that when it’s closer to done, I think, but as you can see from the top row, it’s a battle.
I have named this entire procedure THE UNPACKENING (the all caps is important) and this feel like I have won a major battle in THE UNPACKENING war. Bookcases are in place!
Now I just have to fill them!
(Next time on THE UNPACKENING: the room where all the boxes actually are.)
“Oh,” I thought, “these boxes are so heavy and there are so many of them. This is going to take me all day.”
Time begun: 10: 10
Time completed: 10:25.
BOOSH.
Now to figure out where to put all those boxes in photo #3.

I am in the new house, in the midst of unpacking. Yesterday I found my nightstand, lamp and clock and so put up a little corner of order. Today, I made my bed. (The quilt is more of an art quilt than a warmth quilt, but it sure looks bright and cheery, doesn’t it?)
There’s still a shitton of unpacking and arranging to do, but between this, the closet being nearly done and the bureau being begun, I feel like it’s much more doable.
Today I might even put up pictures.
I was going to take a picture of ALL THE THINGS! during the move, but the day itself turned out to be so crazy that picture-taking was just not possible.
BUT! I am now moved in to the new house with Sister, Brother-in-law and Nephew (and four cats) and am trying to make order out of the chaos. Today’s goals are to empty the closet and start putting clothes in, and to organize the bathroom.
As you can see, the closet, while tiny, holds a lot of promise.
That’s right, movers are coming on Tuesday morning and I need to have things ready for them.
Done:
Wot needs doing:
Let’s do this.
Remember those nine bags of books that I had set aside to donate? This past Saturday, my sweet neighbors helped me lug the bags to the library (where the librarian was very happy to get them), as well as to take six bags of clothes, shoes and purses/tote bags to a donation center; as well as shred several boxes’ worth of papers to leave in the recycle bin.
What you see above is what remained in my bookcases, plus my CDs and software (mostly games, I admit—the Sims, man. The Sims.) and DVDs. (All but a few I left out to watch while I finish packing, since my cable is scheduled to end on Friday.)
Picture #3 is my to-do list. I’m trying to get the movers scheduled for next Tuesday. Meantime, STILL SO MUCH TO DO OMG. Plus voting. (I did get the car registered, though. Need to erase that.) As you may see in the office picture, I’ve rather let things get away from me in the last few years.
But I have five empty bookcases now. That’s more than I had this morning.

Update on my progress:
Uh…not much.
While I have gotten most of the papers and magazines to a recycle bin, there’s always more. Culling out the clothes I don’t want anymore has been more difficult, because while there’s quite a few things I know I’ll never wear again (I don’t like the texture of the fabric or I don’t like the way it fits me, or it’s just too big [yay weight loss! but that’s another subject altogether] and I intend to never be that size again) there are a few things I might wear again. Maybe. Someday.
Ugh, this decluttering thing is not for the faint of heart.
Anyway, above is the pile of bags I took out of the front closet this morning. I think I’m going to pack as many of my books into those as I can rather than use the boxes (a few of which are visible behind the bags—they make their own tower) so I can use the boxes for less heavy, less sturdy things.
Wish me luck.
